Fall of Emerald Hold
Back to Haywood.
Emerald Hold was a stronghold for hundred of centuries, housed some of the greatest weapon and armors smiths within the dwarven world. One of the founder dwarves was called Durkon. Who lead his people from the hills where the orcs and trolls tried to elminate his clan along with the other clan members from the nearby hills. However being as his clan was known for their fighting skills and weapondry they were able to hold off the orcs long enough for the other clans to make a retreat. The clan was unable to defeat the orcs and soon made for their retreat. For many years they searched the mountains and hill for the perfect place to call home and build their stronghold. Soon Durkon found a cavern below Dragon Claw Hill. The clans began working together and create one of the most powerful strongholds in the eastern world. The Stronghold held up against many a battles. It could outlast most seiges. For centuries the hold stood with no problems, till the Orcs once again threatened the dwarven clans. They laid seige that lasted 99 years. During the final year of the seige the orcs planned a small raid that used these devices that hold powder that can cause explosions, however they only made a hole small enough to get a small band of orcs in before the dwarves could fight them off and patch the hold with reinforced adamantite. When they orcs were pushed back, they managed to kidnap one of the commanders of the dwarven army. For many months they tortured the dwarf till he finally told the orcs about every nook and cranny. They learned a secret of the defenses that the chieftains never though previous, were they started to bury under, and soon when they had a large enough force under the hold, they broke through with wave after wave of orcs pouring out of the ground, the dwarves, all fell to a man. For many years afterward the orcs soon grew bored of their new fort and moved on to conquer more forts and strongholds. There is still a band that use it as a base to form raids to local towns and cities. Since most of the cavern was unoccupied, other creatures started to move in. Today’s legends say the swords and axes that were forged to fight back the orcs had so many anger in the hearts of the dwarves, that they seeped into the weapons themselves, and that some brave adventurers that tread the area near the Emerald Hold may come across one, that rose to the surface to help those slay the orcs and any that assisted them.
